Xeomin Injections Questions and Answers

The botulinum toxin is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure, with over four million performed each year in the United States alone. Although Botox paved the way for success, several other brands have followed suit, such as Jeuveau and Xeomin. Although they are both composed of botulinum toxin type A, Xeomin and Botox have several distinctions. The most prominent difference between the two is that Xeomin is a purified version of the molecule, meaning it has no other ingredients, whereas Botox has accessory proteins.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a cosmetic injectable approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of adults with moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows as well as cervical dystonia and blepharospasm (involuntary blinking).
Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity and reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

What areas of the body can be treated with Xeomin?

Xeomin works to reduce, and in many cases, completely eliminate the appearance of dynamic wrinkles that form on the face from repetitive expressions, such as smiling, laughing, and frowning. It can smooth the frown lines that form between the eyebrows (also known as glabellar lines), and it can eliminate forehead lines, effectively serving as a non-surgical brow lift.

It can also effectively remove the bunny lines that form on the nose when squinting or smiling, the marionette lines that form around the mouth and below the chin, and the crow’s feet that form at the outer corners of the eyes.

Xeomin can also treat the following areas:

The Forehead

The forehead is front and center: anything that shows up on the forehead is not easily missed, including lines and wrinkles. Xeomin erases these lines and provides a younger, smoother appearance.

Frown Lines

The muscles in the forehead also contribute to the development of frown lines, typically located between the eyebrows and above the bridge of the nose. Frown lines can make a person look older or angrier than they really are, and can be effectively treated with Xeomin while producing natural-looking results.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are fine lines around the corners of the eyes that form from dynamic movements like smiling, laughing, and squinting. Neurotoxins produce the most profound impact on crow’s feet compared to any other cosmetic treatment. By relaxing the muscles around the eyes, Xeomin can completely remove crow’s feet.

What’s the difference between Xeomin and Botox?

The main difference between Xeomin and Botox has to do with the formulation: Xeomin is a “naked” neurotoxin, containing only a single ingredient (botulinum toxin A), while the formulation of Botox includes various accessory proteins clustered around the active molecule.

The benefit of Xeomin’s pure-form means users have a lower chance of developing resistance (antibodies) that can limit its desired effects, and it also means there is a lower chance of an allergic reaction, although the risk of this is already very low with Botox.

How long do Xeomin injections last?

In most cases, the results of Xeomin last for about three months, although some patients report the effects lasting for much longer, with some individuals showing an improvement of their facial lines for up to six months. However, the duration of results varies from patient to patient, and several factors can influence this time frame, including age, metabolism, areas treated and severity of the conditions being treated.
